Bible Reading Plan: May 3-9

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.
We are studying the Letter to the church in Corinth. It’s Paul’s corrective letter to a divided and morally compromised church. He confronts disunity, immorality, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship and the resurrection. His purpose is to re-center the church on Christ crucified and risen, calling them to holiness, unity, and love.
When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
- What does it say about God?
- What does it say to/about me?
- What can I learn from this reading?
- May 3, Sun Anniversary: Dawn & John Fetter
Prov 1: 23 [God] “If you turn at my reproof, I will pour out my spirit …” - May 4, Mon Pray for the Karate ministry: led by Dan Naylor for 2+ decades
I Cor 15: 22-28 The contrast between Adam and Christ is so that we understand our sinful heritage (in Adam) and our salvation (in Christ). Because of the latter, we will “all be made alive” – the hope of the resurrection (vs 22). - May 5, Tues Birthday: John Fetter; Anniversary: Karen & Scott Hart
I Cor 15: 29-35 The biblical / historical context is unclear, but Paul is clearly against any form of baptism for/of the dead (practiced in Mormonism). He says it doesn’t make any sense because the dead will remain dead (without Christ). - May 6, Wed Pray for the Deacons as they meet this evening.
I Cor 15: 36-42 The kinds of body – earthly and heavenly are distinguished here: they are different. Interestingly, the earthly body does have a “glory” (vs 40) - May 7, Thur Pray for our Senior Citizens – NVBC is blessed with them!
I Cor 15: 43-49 Once again, the difference between Adam and Christ, earthly body and heavenly body … distinguished. The climax being that in the heavenly body, we will “bear the image of the man of heaven”! (vs 49) - May 8, Fri Pray for our children – NVBC is blessed with them!
I Cor 15: 50-55 The great hope at every Christian funeral – the perishable body will rise again with the imperishable because “death” has been swallowed by the resurrection of Jesus! - May 9, Sat Pray for the Search Committee – as they discern …
I Cor 15: 56-58 Notice not only is the ‘sting of death’ conquered but the “power of sin” too has been won by Christ in victory! Hence there is no excuse for us to sin. Whether we are ‘living in Adam’ or ‘living in Christ’ is what you have to figure out. Remember the song “I’m no longer a slave … to fear, sin”? Sing it … play it, worship!
