Bible Reading Plan: May 10-16

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together.  We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We are studying the Letter to the church in Corinth.  It’s Paul’s corrective letter to a divided and morally compromised church. He confronts disunity, immorality, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship and the resurrection. His purpose is to re-center the church on Christ crucified and risen, calling them to holiness, unity, and love.

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What does it say about God?
  • What does it say to/about me?
  • What can I learn from this reading?
  • May 10, Sun Worship the risen Savior!
Prov 2: 2 “make your ear attentive to wisdom … incline your heart to understanding”
  • May 11, Mon Pray discerningly and ask yourself – am I generous giver?
I Cor 16: 1-8 A reminder on giving – ‘on the first day of the week, as you prosper’. How is your giving? Has it increased as you prosper?
  • May 12, Tues The Search Comm. Interviews have started – pray!
I Cor 16: 9-16 In vs 9, two realities of ministry are shown – God opens a “wide door” and there can be “many adversaries”. Because of Timothy’s young age (cf. I Tim 4: 12), Paul encourages the Church to ‘put him at ease …help him’ – the word of an older man/woman in the life of someone younger goes a long way
  • May 13, Wed Birthday: Dan Naylor; Anniv.: Karla & Rich Sooby
I Cor. 16: 17-24 Similarly with others, Paul is introducing and building bridges of relationship between people in the family of God. He ends this letter with an exchanged of love and greetings.
  • May 14, Thur Pray and invite for the Veteran’s Appreciation Event (30th)
2 Cor. 1: 1-7 A great passage on suffering and God’s comfort – God will comfort us but that is not the end; we are to comfort others with the same comfort experience we received.
  • May 15, Fri Birthday: Angel Granda
2 Cor. 1: 8-14 Paul describes his suffering experience – it was frightening, but it taught him not to rely on himself but God. He asks for prayer – do you ask for prayers for those things that you struggle with? A good yardstick for Christian living – vs 12: Paul lived and behaved in the world with “simplicity and godly sincerity”.
  • May 16, Sat Pray for the Worship on the Mound Service!
2 Cor. 1: 15-24 [written one year after 1st Cor., by this time there is open rebellion against Paul] Just as Jesus’ 2nd coming includes judgement and hence the grace of delay, Paul states that he changed his mind on a second visit – an act of grace (vs 15, 23)
