Bible Reading Plan: September 6-12

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together.  We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

In the Epistles of John, written at the end of his life, John sends these 3 letters calling believers to know the truth about Christ, walk faithfully in it, and demonstrate it through love, obedience, and Christian relationships. He also warns the believer against false teaching and ungodly leadership

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What does it say about God?
  • What does it say to/about me?
  • What can I learn from this reading?
  • Sept 6, Sun We love Him because He first loved us! Worship Him!
Prov 6: 1-5 a great warning on debt!
  • Sept 7, Mon Pray for wars and conflict to cease
I John 5: 16-21 Simple truth of whether someone is a follower/disciple of Jesus: if they keep on sinning there are not “born of God”
  • Sept 8, Tues Pray for Nepal - in that devasting situation may the tiny Church of Jesus Christ find witness opportunities.
2 John 1-6 note the emphasis on “truth” - you love truth, you know truth, you walk in truth; Jesus is truth (John 14:6) and in God’s Word is truth. In vs 6 “love” is proved by “walking according to [God’s] commandments”.
  • Sept 9, Wed Birthday: Josephine Edwards
2 John 7-13, 3:1 Hmmm … we are told in vs 10 that if a so-called ‘Christian’ is errant on the ‘abiding on the teaching of Christ’ (vs 9), should not be said ‘hello’ to or invited into your home!
  • Sept 10, Thur Pray for the Middle East - that Ananias House (the ministry that NVBC supports) would flourish in the Gospel work
3 John 2-8 John rejoices that the people are walking and living in the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Having defined truth and love, John now says that we should “support people” who are fellow workers in God’s ministry
  • Sept 11, Fri Pray for the AWANA ministry, it starts today!
3 John 9-14 It was not unusual to call out people that the Church needed to be careful about, in this case Diotrephes. Why? Because all through Scripture, those who are troublemakers, or doctrinally wrong, in sin, are considered as ‘yeast’ that can begin a rot in the Body (Matt 18, I Cor. 5:6)
  • Sept 12, Sat Pray for Worship on the Mound tomorrow
Eph. 5: 8-16 This is Paul writing, similar to John: “Look carefully then how you walk” (vs 15). If you read vs 1f you will notice the encouragement to “walk in love”, Christ our example.
