Bible Reading Plan: August 16-22

August 15th, 2026

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We are concluding the reading of the Book of Joshua – it records Israel’s transition from a wandering people to a covenant nation under Joshua after Moses’ death. It highlights God’s faithfulness where God teaches His people blessings that come through faith and obedience. Joshua foreshadows Jesus Christ, who leads believers into the eternal inheritance and rest.

This week, we are also starting in the Epistles of John. Written at the end of his life, John sends these 3 letters calling believers to know the truth about Christ, walk faithfully in it, and demonstrate it through love, obedience, and Christian relationships. He also warns the believer against false teaching and ungodly leadership

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

What does it say about God?
What does it say to/about me?
What can I learn from this reading?

Aug 16, Sun Praise God that He doesn’t treat us for what we deserve
Prov 5: 8-9 “Keep your way from her [i.e. adulterous woman] …lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless”
Aug 17, Mon Pray for our nation, the President, and all leaders - that we/they would be humble, godly and servant-leaders
Joshua 24: 1-15 The covenant is renewed. Why is that important? As years pass by, and a new generation comes along, people tend to forget their history; in this case, what God had done. Pivoting off that history, one is given a chance to renew and make this your vow

Joshua 24: 16-28 An interesting back and forth between Joshua and the people - to which they repeat “… we will serve the LORD”
Aug 19, Wed Reflect, recollect … did you promise God … and forget?
Joshua 24: 29-33 Joshua dies and is buried. In Genesis 50:25, Joseph makes the people swear that his bones will be taken to the Promised Land - @ 325 years later, that promise is fulfilled (vs 32). Question - are there any promises / desires that you expressed to God, especially in a time of need, that you have forgotten to fulfill?

I John 1: 1-7 Notice in John’s introduction (vs 1), the references to the different senses that bear witness to the truth? It’s on that basis that he finds the authority to share the rest of the letter. Vs 8 starts with what John wants to communicate.

I John 1: 8-2:4 It is critical that we acknowledge we are sinners (vs 1: 8-9). Homework: vs 2 has a rich theological word - “propitiation”, research it! How do you know if someone, even yourself, is a genuine follower of Jesus Christ? Ans: I John 2: 3b-6.

I John 2: 5-11 Being a disciple of Jesus is less about whether your prescribe to a list of doctrinal positions and confess with your mouth all the right things. True conversion shows up in how you live, how you treat others. Here, vs 9-11, if you despise your brother, the Word says you are not converted and you are still in darkness!
