Bible Reading Plan: August 2-8

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We are reading the Book of Joshua – it records Israel’s transition from a wandering people to a covenant nation under Joshua after Moses’ death. It highlights God’s faithfulness where God teaches His people blessings that come through faith and obedience. Joshua foreshadows Jesus Christ, who leads believers into the eternal inheritance and rest.

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

What does it say about God?
What does it say to/about me?
What can I learn from this reading?

Joshua 17: 14-18 Complaining and comparing is not new! Here, the tribe of Joseph thought their land allotment was not sufficient. Notice how decisive Joshua is in vs 17-18. There is a time for discussions and suggestions, but ending it is important.

Joshua 18: 1-10 Although God had “given the land”, there was complacency and delay with seven tribes who hadn’t taken possession. So Joshua rebukes and recommends 3 men from each tribe to do a survey and then he would cast lots. Do you delay, are you complacent? Procrastination is a form of disobedience

Joshua 20: 1-9 What a wonderful God! What an act of grace and protection!
God knows well that angry and revengeful people, especially when emotionally charged, may not be reasonable – and so there were “cities of refuge” or ‘sanctuary cities’ where an accused person could find refuge and protection – “till he stood before the congregation”, i.e. justice could be determined by law, courts and/or people.
