Bible Reading Plan: May 31 - June 6

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together.  We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We are studying the Letter to the church in Corinth.  It’s Paul’s corrective letter to a divided and morally compromised church. He confronts disunity, immorality, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship and the resurrection. His purpose is to re-center the church on Christ crucified and risen, calling them to holiness, unity, and love.

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What does it say about God?
  • What does it say to/about me?
  • What can I learn from this reading?
  • May 31, Sun
Prov 3:7-8 “fear the LORD … it will be healing to your flesh”
  • June 1, Mon Birthday: Karen Hart
2 Cor 6: 11-18 vs 14 is often used as a go-to-verse for discouraging inter-religious marriages. Looking at the context of that verse, we don’t have “Marriage” as the context. If so, this warning would cover everything in our social / work / business life.
  • June 2, Tues Pray for God’s guidance in the Pastor Search process
2 Cor 7: 1-7 vs 1 is a call to holiness – it is our responsibility to cleanse ourselves. When one lives an upright life, one can say ‘I have done no wrong to you, I love you, I am proud of you’. [That doesn’t mean that others couldn’t be or stay upset with you]
  • June 3, Wed Birthday: Juliet Morris
2 Cor. 7: 8-16 [Paul’s earlier letter caused people to be upset with him] Paul says he does not regret that it got people upset, because that led to their repentance (vs 9). There are 2 kinds of ‘grief’, or ‘feeling bad’ – the worldly kind that leads to condemnation, the godly kind that leads to repentance (vs 10)
  • June 4, Thur Pray for the Art & Science Camp
2 Cor. 8: 1-7 A classic passage on generous giving! Generosity has less to do with whether you are financially poor/rich – it is about the heart, and the willingness to sacrifice. Use this passage as a mirror to see whether you practice biblical giving or are you stuck on an amount or percentage.
  • June 5, Fri Pray for Shamoir and Alexcia as they seek God’s will
2 Cor. 8: 8-15 Godly giving is based on “what a person has” (vs 12) – God does not expect you to give from what you don’t have! Christ is our example for giving – vs 9. Lowering our standards of living, cutting our expenses, etc. so that we can bless others, is a biblical paradigm for imitating Christ … for generosity.
  • June 6, Sat Pray for the Pastoral Search Committee as they interview
2 Cor. 8: 16-24 Paul recommends Titus and a famous “brother”, associates of Paul. Because Paul trusts them, he is encouraging the Corinthian church to trust them too. [Possible take away: the church trusted the Search Committee and the Deacons. Trust them now!]
