Bible Reading Plan: July 19-25

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together.  We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We start this week in the Book of Joshua – it records Israel’s transition from a wandering people to a covenant nation under Joshua after Moses’ death. It highlights God’s  faithfulness where God teaches His people blessings that come through faith and obedience. Joshua foreshadows Jesus Christ, who leads believers into the eternal inheritance and rest.

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
  • What does it say about God?
  • What does it say to/about me?
  • What can I learn from this reading?
  • July 19, Sun Let’s worship a God who is always available to us!
Prov 4: 10 Wisdom says “… accept my words …” - the benefits are many
  • July 20, Mon Birthday: David Slaughter
Joshua 10: 16-27 Since there was a covenant between Israel and Gibeon, Joshua was committed to fight for them. The brutality and ruthlessness of war is a reality that continues to today
  • July 21, Tues Thank God for God’s blessings – start with your vocation
Joshua 10: 28-43 a common refrain “the LORD gave _____ into the hand of Israel”, but they had to do their part of fighting. Just because you pray doesn’t mean you have nothing to do
  • July 22, Wed Thank God for the place you stay – it’s your home, a rest
Joshua 11: 1-15 More conquests! There are some repeats – “The LORD gave …”, ‘just as God commanded Moses … so Joshua did’ (v 15). Notice also that there was complete annihilation and destruction of people and things, nothing left standing.
  • July 23, Thur Thank God for water – to shower, to drink, etc. A cold glass …
Joshua 11: 16-23 “For it is the LORD’s doing to harden their hearts …” (vs 20). We often are aware of what God can do in our hearts and minds but forget that God can do the same in a pagan … orchestrating everything for His purpose. Remember that God is sovereign and in control of everything, meaning everything!
  • July 24, Fri Thank God for air conditioning – at home, work, cars!
Joshua 12: 1-24 You will read this and not remember a thing! Why is it in the Bible? For a few reasons: first, to list real historical places, people and incidents that are verifiable; secondly, when you look at a map, you visually are impressed as to how this small nation of Israel conquered lands and people many times their size – which should raise the question “how”? Leading to the answer ‘God gave …’. Lastly, you learn of how God works in history and how He orchestrates politics for His purpose.
  • July 25, Sat Thank God for nature, flowers, trees, parks, animals, insects
Joshua 13: 1-14 vs 1 shows us that a leader is responsible for what he/she is assigned; Joshua “was old … yet [there was] very much land to possess” (vs 1) – that was to be someone else task. Do you know what God wants you to do and what is not your responsibility?
