Bible Reading Plan: May 17-23

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.
We are studying the Letter to the church in Corinth. It’s Paul’s corrective letter to a divided and morally compromised church. He confronts disunity, immorality, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship and the resurrection. His purpose is to re-center the church on Christ crucified and risen, calling them to holiness, unity, and love.
When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
- What does it say about God?
- What does it say to/about me?
- What can I learn from this reading?
- May 17, Sun Let us enthusiastically worship, fellowship and eat!
Prov 2: 10 “wisdom will come into your heart .. knowledge …pleasant …” - May 18, Mon Anniv.: Anita & Robert Ford
2 Cor 2: 1-11 A person, or a group, started an opposition to Paul – so Paul decides not to visit Corinth because of the pain it would cause them and him. What was intended to Paul personally, he states hurts the Body of Christ. He encourages them to forgive and love. - May 19, Tues Birthday: Mike Sabal
2 Cor 2: 12-17 The Gospel is a “fragrance” – an aroma to those being saved, and to those perishing – a stink of death. Paul’s emphasis on preaching only Christ is significant; we don’t ‘peddle’, or fluff up the Gospel with other things, we don’t ‘tickle ears’ (cf. 2 Tim 4:3), etc. – the truth of Jesus, sin, the Gospel is the message. - May 20, Wed Pray for the AA gathering today – that Christ will present
2 Cor. 3: 1-6 As much as the Gospel is preaching Christ, see vs 2 closely: our lives are a “letter of recommendation … read by all”! It should be no surprise that pagans look at us first before the can hear us - May 21, Thur Birthdays: Leisha Ficano, Leah Heim, Asher Heim
2 Cor. 3: 7-11 The comparison is between the “law” (i.e. ten commandments, etc.) and the “Spirit” – the point being when Moses brought the tablets down people couldn’t look at his face. If so, how much more is the “glory” of the new … the permanent! - May 22, Fri Pray for the Deacon Board and Search Committee
2 Cor. 3: 12-18 Having established that the new (covenant) in Christ’s work is far superior and glorious, Paul states (vs 18) that we are being transformed now … from one to the other! Do you feel that change? Do others see the transformation and God’s glory? - May 23, Sat Pray for the next Pastor – that he hears God’s calling
2 Cor. 4: 1-6 What a good reminder in vs 1-2: ‘we don’t behave or transact like pagans’. Secondly, realities of how the Gospel works in pagans: there is a mysterious reality – “the god of this world”, i.e. Satan, blinds their minds from seeing the light (vs 3). Add to that what Jesus says in Matt 13: 11-13, and you have an interesting fact
