Bible Reading Plan: April 26 - May 2

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.
We are studying the Letter to the church in Corinth. It’s Paul’s corrective letter to a divided and morally compromised church. He confronts disunity, immorality, misuse of spiritual gifts, and confusion about worship and the resurrection. His purpose is to re-center the church on Christ crucified and risen, calling them to holiness, unity, and love.
When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:
- What does it say about God?
- What does it say to/about me?
- What can I learn from this reading?

Prov 1: 19 ‘greed …takes away the life of its possessors’ - April 27, Mon Pray for the Search Committee – as they meet this week
I Cor 14: 17-24 Paul settles this confusion simply – vs 19. The cherry on top is vs 24-25. A good question for us is: if an unbeliever came for our Worship Service will he / she declare ‘God is among them’? - April 28, Tues Pray for our adult children – that they would draw near to God
I Cor 14: 25-32 Paul is advocating for church time to be focused on “building up” (vs 26) because “God is not a God of confusion” (vs 33; cf. vs 40). On the role of “tongues” and how it worked in the Church – ‘if someone spoke in a language that no one understood, then someone else who had the gift of “interpretation” should translate that so that others understood. If the ‘interpreter’ was not there, then don’t speak in tongues! - April 29, Wed Birthday: Betty Thompson, Ezra Coccia
I Cor 14: 33-40 On vs 34-35 and women being silent in the church: see 11:5, 13 which advocates for women to pray and prophecy (cf. Acts 2:17, 21: 8-9). There are 2 ways to deal with these verses: (a) this is a cultural instruction, or (b) are specific to judging prophecies that were spoken in the church [which align with teaching and authority over men] - April 30, Thur Birthday: Kristen DiGaetano, Bruce Mason
I Cor 15: 1-7 Facts about Jesus’ resurrection – first that he died and was buried, then rose again. He appeared to an assortment of people – some who were still alive at Paul’s time. There were living witnesses, so there was no reason to doubt this fact. - May 1, Fri Pray for Jason Heim – that God would give wisdom to lead
I Cor 15: 8-14 To be called an “apostle” (Acts 1: 21-22) was to have seen Jesus; hence Paul’s assertion here to prove his credibility to be an “apostle”. The bigger argument that is being addressed is a belief among some that ‘there is no resurrection of the dead’ - May 2, Sat Pray for the Carnival – that the love of Jesus would shine
I Cor 15: 15-21 The significance of Jesus’ resurrection has profound implications – if that didn’t happen, we are ‘still in our sins’ (vs 17)
