Bible Reading Plan: August 9-15

August 7th, 2026

We invite you to join us in reading through the Bible together. We're not trying to complete it in a limited time frame like a month or a year; but rather, we want to create a habit (or discipline) of getting to know God's heart through what He's told us about Himself.

We are reading the Book of Joshua – it records Israel’s transition from a wandering people to a covenant nation under Joshua after Moses’ death. It highlights God’s faithfulness where God teaches His people blessings that come through faith and obedience. Joshua foreshadows Jesus Christ, who leads believers into the eternal inheritance and rest.

When reading, ask yourself the following questions:

What does it say about God?
What does it say to/about me?
What can I learn from this reading?

Aug 9, Sun Rejoice, sing, dance, lift up your hands – Christ has freed you!
Prov 5: 1-2 “ … be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding, that you may keep disretion …”
Aug 10, Mon Praise and thank God that the Griffins arrived safely!
Joshua 21: 1-19 The Levites did not receive tribal inheritance but lived in cities with surrounding pasturelands. Their dispersion probably exerted a spiritual influence across the entire nation
Aug 11, Tues Pray and thank God for Chris Ann – who manages the finances
Joshua 21: 20-45 As the narrative of land distribution closes, what’s most important is vs 43-45. That speaks to God’s promise, God’s ability to accomplish, and the benefit to God’s people
Aug 12, Wed Pray for the Special People Dance for tomorrow evening!
Joshua 22: 1-20 The Reubenites, Gadites, and the ½ tribe of Manasseh are given their allotments. As the eastern tribes return, they build an altar near Jordan – others hear about it and are furious because it reminds them about their past pagan altars and God’s fury upon them. They prepare for war, but wisdom dawns and they send a delegation to enquire
Aug 13, Thur Birthday: Alexcia Griffin
Joshua 22: 21-34 The delegation discovers they had guessed wrong; this was an altar for a testimony of what God had done. How often we conclude or judge based on gossip or hearsay. A warning!
Aug 14, Fri Thank God for Russ Linton – who cleans the facility faithfully
Joshua 23: 1-8 Joshua is about 80 years and realizes that it was his responsibility to prepare the people for his transition. As a good and loved leader, he diverts their attention to God and what God has done; he encourages them to commit to God

Joshua 23: 9-16 Now he reminds them to be holy – the pagans will be a “snare and a trap” (vs 13), don’t marry them, etc. When you read the chapter, you’ll see as in other parts of Scripture, there is 2 foci approach to our Christian living – love God and despise evil
